Sergeant Nickolas Auvil, a radio operator and a Martinsville native, climbs a 150-foot tower to conduct preventative maintenance at the Eighth Communications Battalion compound at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, on April 18. Four Marines are responsible for keeping Internet and phone communications running for Camp Leatherneck, Camp Dwyer, and a myriad of other patrol and forward operating bases in Helmand and Nimroz Provinces. After a recent thunderstorm, the Marines climbed the 150-foot tower to help restore communications.
